MOT View: Bielsa has his faults but Leeds fans must accept the whole package
Despite rumours swirling round, Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t lost the Leeds dressing room.
He’s also still got the unwavering support of 99% of Leeds fans.
Last season he took the club to its highest position in the Championship since promotion from League One.
And he signed on for another crack at the Championship, with Leeds favourites to win the league this season and almost certain to finish in the play-off spots at a minimum.
Does Bielsa have his faults?
Absolutely. He’s a stubborn manager who insists on playing the same players even if they’re out of form. He has a system and he sticks with it because he believes in it.
This belief in a small group of players hurt Leeds last season when a couple more prudent buys in January could have seen the club get over the line and win promotion.
But – and this is a big but – when you have a manager like Bielsa you have to accept him for who he is and support him through the lean times.
Some recent results haven’t gone the way fans wanted but stats point to the fact that Leeds are dominating games and creating way more chances than anyone else. Leeds have conceded two goals fewer than any other team.
If the current side click they could start to pull away at the top but win promotion or not, Bielsa will do things his way. Fans need to remember – and most do – that it’s Bielsa’s world. We just live in it.
