MOT View: 99% pass success rate - Leeds ace stakes claim for start with int'l masterclass
Leeds United fans got their first chance to watch summer signing Diego Llorente on Wednesday evening.
The Spanish international played the entire 90 minutes against Portugal in Lisbon, in an exciting clash that somehow finished 0-0.
Llorente played alongside fellow Leeds signing Rodrigo Moreno, with both catching the eye as the Whites had as many players as Barcelona in the starting XI.
Delving into the stats on WyScout, Llorente definitely showcased his class on one of the biggest games for his country.
The 27-year-old attempted 69 passes and completed 68 of those at a superb 99% success rate – something which should prove he can fill in at Elland Road.
Llorente also won six of his 10 defensive duels, something which is definitely more impressive when you consider he was against Cristiano Ronaldo.
Marcelo Bielsa wants his defenders to be cool in possession, but also have that strength when not on the ball and Llorente showed both of those in an abundance on Wednesday.
Many Leeds fans were blown away by the performance of Llorente, with some even claiming that Liam Cooper can wave goodbye to his starting spot.
The 27-year-old is certainly pushing for his first start of the season against Wolves at Elland Road after the international break.
There are still two games for him to catch the eye, and Bielsa will be watching closely with his defensive options finally through the roof.
