Pablo Hernandez was a massive part of the Leeds United side that secured promotion last season.

The seminal moment of the season was the late goal against Swansea and the passion in his face when he wheeled away to score will be forever etched in fans’ memories.

It’s also the scene of the latest incredible Leeds mural that’s just gone up in the city.

That’s how much a part of Leeds United Pablo Hernandez is.

And that’s why what’s happened this season is such a shock.

We knew Hernandez – on a reported £23.5k/wk – was going to struggle for fitness this season. How he was used at the tail-end of last season spelt that out.

However, he’s only made four appearances and two starts in the Premier League and hasn’t contributed a goal or an assist yet. That’s a shock in itself.

Worse, he was dropped for a petulant reaction to getting subbed off against Leicester and that’s caused an issue with Marcelo Bielsa that saw him dropped when fit for the game against Crystal Palace.

He hasn’t played since and while he’s supposedly out injured, fans are asking questions.

He picked up the injury during international break but Bielsa has been very shy of coming forward with details about it.

He’s been ruled out of the game against Chelsea and with Rodrigo currently on the bench and ahead of him in the pecking order, even if fit and back his minutes are going to be greatly diminished.

That’s the second shock for us and we desperately hope there’s nothing else going on behind the scenes. If there is we’ll probably find out about it in January.

However, as it stands it really looks like the playmaker, who’s on a reported £23.5k-a-week at Leeds, is fighting for his future on two fronts – fitness and form.

And that’s a line we really didn’t expect to be writing this season.
