Mikkel Damsgaard interested in a move to Leeds; the Whites need to sign him

Sampdoria attacker Mikkel Damsgaard is attracting attention from Leeds United after an impressive showing at the European Championships with Denmark, according to Club Doria 46.

The 21-year-old Danish international lit up Euro 2020 with two spectacular goals for his country as well as his all-round play, and after this latest revelation, the Whites have to be all over this deal.

Damsgaard has been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham, but Leeds fans should take great encouragement from this latest report [Club Doria 64].

The Dane has had an incredible start to his international career with four goals in his first eight games for his country, but he has also impressed in Serie A.

The 21-year-old only directly contributed to six goals in the league last season, but he played in seven different positions.

He played 11 games as a left-winger, which would put him in direct competition with Jack Harrison. However, he also played 11 matches in a central role, be that just behind the striker or further back.

Now that it looks like the Whites are not signing Rodrigo de Paul, could Damsgaard be the man they look to sign next [Fabrizio Romano]? De Paul is versatile, and Bielsa likes versatile players, so Damsgaard is already ticking a box there [Coach Better].

If we drill further down into the statistics, we can see that the Dane only made 18 starts for Sampdoria during the 2020/21 Serie A campaign, which is surprising.

However, despite being an attacking player, he averaged 1.2 tackles per game as well as 1.5 dribbles per game, and four assists [WhoScored].

If we compare these numbers with Leeds’ players, we can see that Damsgaard would have finished in fifth place in Leeds’ squad for assists and third place for dribbles [WhoScored].

So, not totally standout numbers, but clearly he has the potential there.

In truth, Leeds should be doing all they can to bring in a man described as “phenomenal” by Kasper Schmeichel [OneFootball].

They will possibly face competition for the 21-year-old’s signature, which is why they should be all over this deal.
