Mateusz Klich Leeds United exit could open door for Harry Winks Elland Road arrival

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich is reportedly close to leaving Elland Road and that could open the door for Harry Winks to arrive at the club.

News outlet Meczyki reported on 3 August that Klich is pushing to leave the club this summer after spending over four years at Elland Road.

It has also been suggested by The Athletic’s Tottenham Hotspur reporter Charlie Eccleshare (via GIVEMESPORT, 3 August) that Leeds have been mentioned in the discussion for Harry Winks.

Klich’s future at the club was always going to be up in the air this summer with the huge influx of new arrivals at Elland Road likely to impact his game time under Jesse Marsch.

He is currently entering the final two years of his current Elland Road deal and at 32, probably needs to move on in order to play regularly as he enters the twilight of his career.

Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Darko Gyabi have all come through the front doors and Elland Road this summer in order to ease the blow of losing Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.

Gyabi is unlikely to be thrown directly into the first team action which could mean Marsch could well look to bring in another midfielder, should Klich also exit the club this summer.

Winks’ Tottenham future looks very much in doubt and a move away from North London does look the best move for the 26-year-old midfielder.

His ability to keep the ball ticking over could well be a useful option for Marsch to utilise if the Whites are in a comfortable position in a match and just need to see the game out.

Whether Winks would suit the American’s high-pressing and high-energy style is a different question, with Winks certainly not a dynamic and extremely mobile midfielder.

Regardless, this is one to potentially keep an eye on.

In other Leeds United news, a 29-year-old has snubbed interest from Europe to move to Elland Road with the move subject to a work permit.
