Mateo Joseph impresses in England Under-20 cameo, Daniel Farke will be delighted at Leeds United

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke will be nervously preparing for his team’s clash with Norwich City on Saturday (21 October).

The man in the dugout is welcoming a long list of players back from international duty, desperately hoping that there are no fresh injuries to worry about.

But one player that he can definitely afford to relax about is young forward Mateo Joseph, with the 19-year-old handed just over 30 minutes of action across the two England Under-20 matches during the break.

The attacker featured for 22 minutes against Romania on Thursday (12 October) and 12 minutes against Portugal on Tuesday (17 October).

And the latter display was an impressive one according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue, who wrote on Twitter: “From Leeds United’s pov, Joseph looked sharp when he came on, held it up well despite lack of gametime this season.”

Such playing time during the recent break is absolutely understandable given Joseph’s injury issues this season, with the teenager yet to appear for the Whites under Daniel Farke. He has made the matchday squad on two occasions, having made six senior appearances last time out.

Given Joseph’s age, Farke has been careful not to rush him back to action, and the manager will be delighted that the England Under-20s coaches had the same idea.

But the youngster’s chance to shine under his new club boss may just arrive against the Canaries, particularly if there are one or two knocks or fatigue issues among the other returning players.

In other Leeds United news, a silver lining has emerged as one Whites sensation is wanted by Premier League giants.
