Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at a report stating that Derby County are not interested in signing Tyler Roberts.

A piece from The Times had initially suggested that the Rams were eyeing up a potential summer swoop for the 21-year-old in an effort to provide attacking reinforcements ahead of the new Championship season.

The Derby Telegraph have since intervened, however, and have categorically stated that County are not keen on the Wales international.

leeds unitedAnd the news has been met with unanimous relief and approval from Leeds fans.

Roberts featured in 23 games for the Whites last term, and while that may not make him one of Marcelo Bielsa’s most regular starters, it does show that he is a trusted and significant member of the Argentine’s squad.

His stats were decent enough too.

Last season, the versatile attacker had a shot accuracy that was almost 10% higher than Patrick Bamford’s, as well as making more than twice as many dribbles and having a higher cross accuracy rate, as per Wyscout.

Factor in that he is still only 21, with plenty of potential to grow and develop, and it would be lunacy for Leeds to let him go this summer.

Will he start every game in the Premier League? Probably not.

But contribute in vital moments and continue to prove that he is one for the future? Absolutely.
