Leeds United will improve with Diego Llorente in the team
Saturday was a huge day for Leeds United as they sealed their first league win of the season, and Diego Llorente returned to the side.
The 28-year-old has had a disrupted start to the season, but he was back and ready to go, and Marcelo Bielsa wasted no time throwing him straight into the action for his first game since September 12.
The Spaniard scored what proved to be the winning goal and also lasted 90 minutes, which given his injury record, is huge for the Whites.
This was also Leeds’ first clean sheet in the league, and we don’t believe that there is any coincidence that Llorente’s return led to a clean sheet.
Last season the Whites kept 12 clean sheets in the league. Llorente played in five of these games, suggesting that Leeds are a much better team with him in the side.
When he has played, the Spanish international has looked born to play in England, and it is just a shame that injuries have impacted his time with the Whites.
However, if he can stay fit, then we believe that Leeds’ fortunes will change, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them push up the league now.
He has been described as “incredible” by Noel Whelan in the past, and he is crucial to this Leeds team [Football Insider].
When he plays, the Whites are much more solid at the back and given the way they play, that makes a big difference for the Whites.
