Leeds United signing leader in Rasmus Kristensen
Leeds United are inching closer to completing their second summer signing with the arrival of Rasmus Kristensen from RB Salzburg this week, according to Phil Hay.
The deal is likely to cost the Whites in the region of £10million to sign the highly-rated right-back from the Austrian outfit.
It is reported that Kristensen will sign a long-term deal at Elland Road and it is hoped that formalities will be completed over the next six days.
Kristensen joined Salzburg in a deal worth £4.5million from Dutch club Ajax in the summer of 2019.
Since then, the Denmark international has represented his current club in 107 matches across all competitions, scoring 13 times and providing 19 assists.
Top Defensive Recruitment
After barely escaping relegation in the recently concluded season, the Whites want to ensure that they don’t have another banana skin in the upcoming campaign.
Therefore, they have prioritized their defence and midfield for this summer and it looks like they have identified a brilliant right-back in Kristensen.
Leeds had one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League last season, conceding 79 goals, which is the second-highest behind relegated Norwich City. They also had the third-worst goal difference in the recently concluded Premier League season.
Kristensen brings defensive solidity and leadership in defence, something that Jesse Marsch’s men lacked last season.
As Leeds want to create a module of attacking football, they would need a safety blanket in defence and that is something that the 24-year-old can definitely provide.
The Denmark international averaged 4.6 tackles per game in the 2021/22 Champions League for Salzburg, one of the highest of the campaign. In the domestic campaign, he scored seven goals and provided four assists in 29 appearances.
