Leeds United should rekindle interest in Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence

Leeds United must do whatever it takes to sign Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence in the summer.

Luke Ayling has shown signs of ageing this season and Jamie Shackleton fancies playing in central midfield.

However, a move did not materialise and they ended their window without signing a new player, let alone Spence.

Now, with Marcelo Bielsa gone, Jesse Marsch will have arrived with certain assurances of being backed in the transfer market.

According to Goal, he is expected to be on the move this summer once his loan spell at Nottingham Forest expires.

Fabrizio Romano reported that a fee in the region of £10million could be enough to lure him away from the Riverside Stadium this summer.

It is also reported that Bayern Munich have entered the race, which means that it’s going to be a heated battle to snap up his services.

However, the fact that he’s been on Leeds’ radar for a while should mean that they will not let go of their target so easily.

He could be the next long-term right-back for the Whites and has proven that he can go toe to toe with some of the league’s top sides.

After he put in a match-winning performance against Arsenal earlier this season, Ian Wright waxed lyrical over him.

The ex-England international said on the Wrighty’s House podcast, “But let me say, that was one of the best right back performances I have seen for a very long time. A very long time.

“If we are talking about right-backs performing at an unbelievable level, we’re talking Reece James and Trent (Alexander-Arnold).

“But I have not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time.”

He clearly seems like someone who’s got the tools to thrive in the Premier League and Victor Orta must look to sign him.
