Leeds United need leaders like Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara after Kalvin Phillips exit

Leeds United are interested in making a move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

The Finland international has been linked with a move away from the Ibrox Stadium, with Brighton & Hove Albion leading the chase [90min].

However, Bailey, while speaking on Talking Transfers Podcast, revealed that Leeds are also one of the clubs interested in signing Kamara, and he is exactly the sort of player they need to fill a major gap now.

“Brighton have an interest in Kamara, he is one of the players who is being considered as a replacement for Yves Bissouma,” he said via HITC. “Kamara who was fabulous for Rangers in that Europa League run, and there is now plenty of Bundesliga interest in Kamara.

“There are other clubs as well. Southampton are sniffing around, Leeds have had a look as well, obviously he’s a former Arsenal starlet as well.”

The 26-year-old has three years left on his contract at the Ibrox Stadium and has a transfer value of £5 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Kamara has been nothing but a breath of fresh air at the Ibrox stadium. In a season when there were so many injuries for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, it was the Finland international that kept the midfield ticking and afloat.

The midfielder was absolutely sensational for the Gers in the last two seasons where the club won the league under Steven Gerrard, then reached the Europa League final in 2022 and lifted the cup under his successor.

In the recently concluded season, Kamara made 28 league appearances for the club, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

He started 79% of the matches in the league in 2021/22 and was used in 76% of the overall league minutes [Transfermarkt].

At a time when Leeds are now certain to lose midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City, signing someone like Kamara would be an excellent acquisition as he is the kind of leader the Whites will need to fill the void created by the absence of the England international.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay shared some extremely encouraging news about one of the Whites’ stars after so much misery in recent months.
