Leeds United must consider Clement Lenglet with major rebuild needed
Leeds United should make a move for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window.
ESPN report that the Catalonian giants are preparing to let ten first-team players go ahead of next season in a mass exodus at the club.
This will put a host of Premier League clubs on red alert, including the Whites according to reports by Express.
The 26-year-old is a hugely experienced player having played in the Champions League as well as for his home nation France on many occasions.
Leeds already has some relationship built with the La Liga outfit after the Junior Firpo deal which might make this one a little bit easier.
Leeds have been in desperate need of some defensive stability for a very long time. The brand of football that Marcelo Bielsa played for a long time and being defensively sound never went hand in hand, but you get the feeling Jesse Marsch’s tenure will be very different.
The American has already shown how highly he holds defending and being tough to break down – bringing in a centre-back with the quality of Lenglet would go a long way in aiding that.
The France international has so a lot of quality but has never really been able to find his feet at Barcelona.
That doesn’t mean he is a bad player but there is some doubt surrounding him after seeing Firpo struggle in the Premier League.
Make no mistake, Lenglet is certainly an improvement on the Whites’ existing centre-back options.
He is versatile too which has already proven itself to be a huge benefit in this injury-prone squad.
