Leeds United must act on Valentin Castellanos' 'dream' transfer verdict

Before the first game of the Premier League season, Leeds United could do with another couple of signings to complete their side.

One of those new additions needs to be a striker with Patrick Bamford only backed up by youngsters Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood but we do have one name high on the list.

New York City striker Valentin Castellanos has been in sensational form over the past 18 months in the MLS and the Whites currently lead the race to sign the Argentine, according to Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old may have now given his biggest hint yet that he fancies a move away from the Big Apple and Elland Road could be the destination for him.

“Being young and having the chance to go to another league in Europe, I think it would be a big thing and a dream come true for me,” Castellanos said to TUDN.

“Sometimes you’re not ready or it’s not the right time, but right now I’m at my best. I am enjoying myself and my mentality is different from when I came to the league.

“I think right now it is an opportunity, and it would be very good to continue growing in Europe and continue doing what I have been doing here.”

Given his golden boot-winning campaign in 2021 and his rapid start to the 2022 MLS season, Castellanos is likely to be a name on many clubs’ lips with his desire to break into the Argentina squad in time for the Qatar World Cup in November.

Leeds United have to go and make a big push to sign the NYCFC star to be the man to not only challenge Bamford at Thorp Arch but perhaps be his perfect striker partner to take the Premier League by storm.

In other Leeds United news, there could be a surprise transfer approach from Galatasaray for one of Marsch’s integral players very soon.
