Leeds United medical confusion emerges for Maximilian Wober after Austrian newspaper shares transfer update
It’s unclear whether or not Maximilian Wober has already had a medical with Leeds United with conflicting reports emerging on the Red Bull Salzburg defender’s proposed move to Elland Road.
Salzburger Nachrichten (30 December) reported that Wober, 24, has arrived in England and has already had a medical with the Whites, which took place on Thursday (29 December).
The Austrian newspaper added that although the medical has been done, a fee hadn’t been agreed upon between Leeds and Jesse Marsch’s former club Salzburg.
And while it seems the fee is still yet to be agreed, 90min (31 December) are now reporting that Wober is yet to have his medical.
It is understood that he is set to have one ahead of a move worth around £14million.
But it does beg the question, is Wober in England and has he already had his Leeds medical?
While Leeds fans have known deals to go astray at this stage in recent years, when a medical is finished, it usually means that the transfer is as good as done.
That wasn’t the case here so maybe there are some agents at work in Austria trying to speed up the deal. If they say that Wober’s completed his medical, it could force Salzburg into a sale sooner rather than later.
Wober will no doubt be itching to get into the thick of it at Elland Road.
He’s a left-sided centre-back who can also play at left-back so it’s hard to see how he fits in a team that already has Pascal Struijk, Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper who can fill that centre-back role.
Maybe the plan is to phase out someone or interest is expected in Struijk in the summer?
In other Leeds United news, Alan Shearer was impressed by one outfield player in the 0-0 draw at Newcastle.
