Leeds United flop Helder Costa must leave Elland Road and not return
Leeds United flop Helder Costa must be locked out of Elland Road and the key needs to be thrown away because he has no future at the club.
It is safe to say the forward has been underwhelming ever since making his just under £16million move from Wolves in 2020.
The 28-year-old has scored only eight goals and assisted 11 times in 71 games for the Whites which is a shocking record.
He spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Valencia and despite La Liga being far easier than the Premier League, he was terrible there too.
In 27 appearances across all competitions, Costa only managed to register two assists for the Spaniards which quickly saw him fall out of favour.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side has decided not to activate their option to sign the attacker permanently which means he is heading back to Thorp Arch with his future facing much uncertainty [Leeds Live, 21 June].
The Angola international still has two years left on his Elland Road contract but under no circumstance should he be allowed to stay at the club.
Unless Jesse Marsch is a miracle worker, he simply isn’t good enough to play for Leeds and keeping him would be a waste of time and resources.
Right now, Leeds are looking to propel themselves as far away as possible from last season’s relegation nightmare.
That means cutting a lot of the dead wood from the squad and replacing them with younger, hungrier players that will take the west Yorkshire club forward in the future.
This current crop of players has done excellently in getting the club back to the pinnacle of football but the transition needs to be made to keep them there.
