Leeds United can now take advantage as Fulham cool interest in striker Bamba Dieng
Leeds United will no longer have to worry about the interest shown in Marseille striker Bamba Dieng as Fulham reportedly seem to have dropped out of the race.
The Whites desperately need to sign a striker and have had no luck in securing the services of one this summer.
Charles De Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo appeared to be their priority targets but both players ended up at other clubs – leaving Leeds still in the chase of a front man.
In the Irish Daily Star (August 17, page 45), it was claimed that the Whites are chasing Dieng and Fulham cooling their interest will give them a major advantage.
Clubs that get promoted tend to spend big money in their first season back up as has been seen by Aston Villa and Fulham previously and Nottingham Forest this summer.
Fulham undoubtedly would have got into a bidding war with Leeds had they been keen.
However, them dropping out now puts the ball in the Whites’ court to go on and sign him.
He’s already in Ligue 1 and if he wants to take that next step in his career, moving to the Premier League makes a whole lot of sense.
With the 22-year-old all set to leave the club, it’s plausible that his agents will now start offering his services around to clubs overseas.
If Victor Orta is not getting his primary targets, there’s a good chance we see the pursuit of Dieng intensifying in the final week of the window.
