Leeds United can complete Azzedine Ounahi transfer by agreeing to Angers condition
Leeds United can potentially complete a deal to sign Morocco’s World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi in January by agreeing to one big Angers condition.
The central midfielder was excellent during the seven-game tournament in Qatar as the Atlas Lions became the first African side to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup en route to a fourth-placed finish.
His performances during the competition have seen him attract the interest from several clubs across Europe, including Premier League sides Leeds, West Ham and most recently Leicester City.
A fresh report from L’Equipe (20 December) claims that the Foxes are set to make a move worth up to £39.5m for the 22-year-old, but Ligue 1 side Angers have set a condition for any deal.
They claim that while the club are open to allowing him to leave in January, they want any deal to include the player staying in France for the rest of the season on loan.
It’s unclear if Leicester or any other clubs are interested or willing to do that deal, but Leeds should be willing in order to get a deal over the line and secure one of Europe’s hottest talents.
With central midfield clearly an area of the squad that needs strengthening, and even moreso with Mateusz Klich seemingly on his way to the MLS with DC United, then securing a replacement is vital.
As it stands there are seemingly no plans to replace Klich in January anyway, with Marc Roca, Tyler Adams, Darko Gyabi, Adam Forshaw and Sam Greenwood seen as enough to get through until the end of the season.
But beyond that Ounahi would offer a great option to the side, with fantastic energy and physical attributes to go along with his passing and technical qualities.
He fits in well with the young model that Leeds have adopted, while also being able to be re-sold in a few years for a far greater price with Europe’s elite clubs already having their eye on him.
It’s a no brainer of a deal and Victor Orta should be all over it, especially since we know that Andrea Radrizzani is already a big fan of the player too.
