Leeds must reignite move for Seny Dieng after Kiko Casilla hints at exit

Leeds United were linked with QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng in January and Victor Orta should make a swoop for him in the summer.

Kiko Casilla was dropped by Marcelo Bielsa at the weekend and the Spaniard has since taken to Instagram to express how fed up he is at not playing.

He also hinted that an exit could be on the cards in the near future, which has not taken anyone by surprise.

Hopefully Victor Orta has planned for that eventuality since Casilla has featured just once in the Premier League.

We were linked to West Brom’s Sam Johnstone [The Sun] as well as Dieng [The Sun] recently so that gives us some kind of insight into future plans.

Dieng is the more realistic choice and exactly what we need currently – Illan Meslier is first-choice so there it would be wrong to replace him by signing Johnstone.

The QPR goalkeeper has been a real success in the Championship this season, building on his strong form for Doncaster the season prior.

Dieng’s save success rate this campaign is 74% whereas Casilla’s was just 67% during his first season in the Championship.

That record has led the 26-year-old to make 97 saves this season – the fourth-highest total in the division, per FBRef.

He has been excellent, and performed better than Casilla managed last year.

His record also suggests he would be able to handle the pressure of facing a Premier League attack, as Meslier has also hand to contend with a lot of shots being fired his direction this term.

As quoted by West London Sport, his managed Mark Warburton said Dieng has been “outstanding” since his loan spell at Donny.

He has years ahead of him to develop and improve too – unlike 34-year-old Casilla.

With Arsenal and Crystal Palace also rumoured to be interested [The Sun] it is important we make a move quickly, before his value rises any higher.

We will not be sad to see Casilla go as in truth he has not been good enough for a long while now.

Meslier is a good young keeper and with Dieng pushing for starts we would finally have strong competition for the number one spot.
