Junior Firpo to make rare start in Leeds United predicted XI v Manchester City
Leeds United will host Manchester City at Elland Road on Wednesday (28 December) and Jesse Marsch has some tough calls to make.
The boss revealed on Thursday (22 December) that Luis Sinisterra and Stuart Dallas were likely to be the only players not available for the visit of the champions, as reported by The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
This means he has a large squad to choose from and the luxury, for the first time in a long time, to select an actual left-back in the left-back position with Junior Firpo finally mended.
The Dominican’s timely return, having started just one game in the Premier League this season, should finally allow Pascal Struijk to return to his preferred central defensive position alongside Robin Koch.
Tyler Adams’ suspension means there is a spot up for grabs in the midfield and Marsch has been banging on about how important Mateusz Klich is to his plans despite firm transfer interest from D.C. United [Tom Bogert].
This is the perfect chance for the American to prove that he wasn’t just speaking up for the media and he genuinely wants him to be involved.
Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson should be back in the mix following their World Cup exploits and the rest of the side is fairly self-explanatory.
Illan Meslier has been ill but should be all good to go in between the sticks while Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville offer a lot of pace and directness in attack.
Manchester City will be firm favourites regardless of the side Leeds United put out but Marsch can’t afford to be scared into playing a defensive side when the counter-attack can be such a potent weapon.
