Joe Gelhardt clearly unhappy with Leeds United usage at the moment

It’s been a really bad couple of weeks for Leeds United after their latest Premier League defeat at the hands of Fulham at Elland Road.

Jesse Marsch’s future is the hot topic at the moment with many fans now calling for the American to be relieved from his post.

Marsch’s decision to make six changes to his starting eleven didn’t pay off and there was yet again no room for Joe Gelhardt. In fact, the American failed to introduce the exciting 20-year-old until the 84th minute of the fixture with Leeds chasing the game.

Gelhardt was a big part of Leeds’ staying in the top flight in the 2021/22 season scoring twice and registering four assists in 20 appearances. This season, the youngster has seen his opportunities limited to mainly substitute appearances, and after what The Athletic’s Phil Hay spotted at Elland Road on Sunday (23 October), Gelhardt may be starting to feel unhappy with how he is being utilised by Marsch.

Hay tweeted during the defeat to Fulham: “Gelhardt looking to the bench constantly as he warms up on the sidelines but yet to get the nod. Into the last 10 minutes. 1-2.”

Quite why Marsch waited so long to introduce the 20-year-old is a mystery. Leeds were chasing the game and with Gelhardt constantly looking at the bench, he is clearly frustrated as well. The American usage of the former Wigan youngster is having an impact on his development.

He needs to be starting games and not just appearing for a five-minute cameo when the Whites are chasing the game.
