Financial worries at Angers gives Leeds United golden opportunity to sign Azzedine Ounahi
Leeds United chief Andrea Radrizzani is a big fan of Azzedine Ounahi and the financial woes at Angers gives the Whites a prime opportunity to pounce.
Ounahi was a breakthrough star in Qatar this winter, with the Morocco midfielder shining during his nation’s run to the World Cup semi-finals.
With Mateusz Klich looking likely to leave Elland Road for the MLS in January [MLSsoccer], Leeds are in the hunt for a new midfielder and could be tempted to try their luck luring Ounahi to the Premier League.
If Orta does try to sign Ounahi, Leeds might not have to bid as much as initially thought, with his current club Angers struggling financially.
Gildas Crozon, a journalist who covers the club for the Courrier de l’Ouest newspaper, told Sky Sports: “He could have gone last summer, so it’s not really new for Angers to think about Azzedine as a potential sale.
“The financial situation is not good at the moment. I’m not sure it’s so bad they have to sell in January, but maybe next summer.”
If Angers do need to cash in on their World Cup star quickly, then they’re likely to get the biggest fee for him in January while his name remains in the headlines.
If Jesse Marsch is keen to find a Klich replacement quickly then Ounahi could fit the bill this winter. At just 22 years old he has an extremely bright future in front of him and he’ll be looking to make a step up in his career after thriving in Qatar.
Leeds may be tempted to wait until the summer as Crozon suggests, but Ounahi is bound to have plenty of offers sat on his table and Orta may need to move quickly to pick up Radrizanni’s latest star.
