Door starts to creep open for Leeds United to sign Azzedine Ounahi in January

Leeds United may have been presented with a good opportunity to sign Moroccon international Azzedine Ounahi in January as Paris Saint-Germain are unlikely to make any effort to sign him.

According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano [10 January], PSG will not move for the Angers midfielder who was sensational for Morocco during the World Cup in Qatar.

Under Luis Campos, PSG are trusting their own talents, and hence they’re not in the race, and the news will come as a big relief for the Whites who are keen to sign him this month.

“Paris Saint-Germain will not go for Azzedine Ounahi. It’s not part of plans as PSG follow different kind of strategy under Luis Campos, trusting their own talents,” wrote Romano on Twitter.

“PSG plan to trust Zaïre-Emery for the future in that position.”

Foot Mercato reported on 8 January that the Whites have submitted a bid for the 22-year-old. Telefoot journalist Saber Desfarges further reported that Ounahi is about to change his agents in order to move away from the French club.

With PSG apparently out of the way, Leeds can focus on getting his deal done, although the Whites could face competition from other Premier League clubs.

Ounahi would be a fantastic addition to the club. Victor Orta admitted [16 December, Spanish outlet Marca, as transcribed by Yorkshire Evening Post] that he has been keeping tabs on him for the last two years, and the club should make a concrete effort now to bring him to Elland Road.

The Whites have been active in the January window, having already signed Max Wober from Red Bull Salzburg. The Yorkshire club are also looking to sign Georginio Rutter in the next few days from Hoffenheim.

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch could look to add a new midfielder to the ranks following the departure of Mateusz Klich. Ounahi is a versatile player who could be a brilliant replacement for Klich, and there’s a window of opportunity for the club to get his deal done.

In other Leeds United news, this Belgian hotshot is also on his way to Elland Road.
