Daniel Farke made masterstroke Leeds United transfer decision on Ethan Ampadu, he was everywhere v QPR

Leeds United clinched all three points at in a comfortable 1-0 Championship win over Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday and Daniel Farke will be revelling in his decision to sign Ethan Ampadu.

Crysencio Summerville bagged his second Championship goal of the campaign and the only goal of the game to ensure Leeds United returned to the top six in the league table with 16 points from their opening ten games.

The Whites saw their six-game unbeaten run come to an end after a 3-1 defeat to Southampton last weekend and were keen to bounce back quickly on home turf and they achieved just that with a comfortable display.

Summerville wasn’t the Whites’ only saving grace on Wednesday (4 October) but new fan favourite Ampadu who has become impossible to drop since his £7m summer move from Chelsea – a move which he desperately needed to discover a new lease of life in his football career.

So far that decision has been totally justified as the Welsh international has quickly become an instant hit at Elland Road through some dominant and complete performances at the heart of Farke’s midfield.

The midfielder played the entire 90 minutes against QPR in what was his 12th game in a Leeds United shirt but his performance was of a player who’d been featuring in West Yorkshire for over 100 games let alone ten.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay could not hold back in his praise of the midfield sensation during the game, calling him “excellent” for the way he led his team from midfield, and driving them up the pitch to relieve pressure.

Ampadu, as he’s so regularly done during his short career at Elland Road, kept things ticking over with some sublime passes and showcasing excellent vision and reading of danger, which certainly reminded the Leeds United faithful of the days when they were enjoying the flawless displays of Kalvin Phillips at the heart of the midfield.

As per SofaScore, the 23-year-old won a whopping nine of his total duels, dribbled past zero times, registered one key pass and completed five of his long balls while successfully completing over 80% of his passes.

So far in the Championship this season, only Birmingham City’s Krystian Bielik (97) has made more recoveries this season than Ampadu (88) with the Welshman playing every minute of action after ten games.

The summer arrivals of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara have helped revamp the club’s midfield following the exits of the likes of Marc Roca, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Adam Forshaw, but Ampadu will surely be getting all the plaudits after some complete and assured displays proving why he’s always been amongst the biggest midfield talents not only in his native country but in the UK.

Right now, Farke’s decision to make him one of the first through the Elland Road doors has proven an absolute masterstroke.

In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke is “totally convinced” that one “unbelievable” Whites player can improve as the season goes on.
