Crysencio Summerville waited for World Cup phone call, Leeds United ace would have made difference

Without the impact of Crysencio Summerville, Leeds United could have easily found themselves bottom of the Premier League right now.

The Dutchman scored in four successive games before the World Cup break and he was hoping that his sudden burst of form had come at the right time to get him on the plane to Qatar.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Summerville had been waiting by the phone for Holland manager Louis van Gaal to give him the call-up to the national team off the back of his scoring streak.

Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, he was not included in the final 26-man squad which has given him a month off from competitive fixtures with Leeds at the very least.

van Gaal could come to regret leaving Summerville at Elland Road though given how two of his four goals in this run of form have been match-winning strikes and that kind of X-Factor could be a big help for the Dutch in Qatar.

While they should breeze through the group stages against the hosts, Senegal and Ecuador the knockout rounds could be much tougher for the Netherlands.

They need match-winners all over the pitch and few have shown their ability at stepping up in the big moment as well as the Leeds United ace has in the past month.

Jesse Marsch won’t be complaining at all, however, as he has one of his key players getting some well-deserved rest and recuperation over the extended break from club football at the highest level.

Only three Whites players are heading to Qatar, all of which were summer signings, as Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams are set to face England for the USA while Rasmus Kristensen represents Denmark.

In other Leeds United news, another Dutch sensation could be set to leave his current club in January and Elland Road might be a possible destination.
