Cody Drameh could now quit Leeds United for good in January as Luke Ayling development emerges
Leeds United are prepared to offer a new contract to Luke Ayling which could ultimately spell the end of Cody Drameh’s time at Elland Road.
Online news outlet TEAMtalk shared via their Twitter account on 16 October that the West Yorkshire outfit are ready to offer a new deal to the player who has over 260 appearances for the club.
The Whites veteran is believed to be extremely settled in the city with his young family and is more than willing to enter into negotiations on fresh terms.
Nobody can dispute the full-back’s commitment to the Whites’ cause over the past year or so, which is more than can be said for some currently, but the 31-year-old has certainly come under fire after some difficult performances which certainly cost him his place in recent weeks.
However, it is believed that Farke still sees him as a crucial component in his plans at Elland Road but it’s a decision which could well have future ramifications for Drameh, especially after the loan investment of Djed Spence and the free transfer of Sam Byram.
The 21-year-old looked to be eyeing a spot in Daniel Farke’s Leeds side this season, but then-Birmingham boss John Eustace snapped the England youth star up on a season-long loan to St Andrew’s on deadline day.
While Farke may not have seen him as part of his plans this season after some tough opening fixtures in Leeds white earlier this season, Drameh has settled to life with the Blues with some stellar performances at right-back already.
Per Between The Lines, Drameh has the highest tackle success rate of any Championship defender with 100 per cent, 11.1 per cent higher than second place Dion Sanderson and above Leeds’ Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu highlighting his impact already at St Andrew’s.
More crucially, the Blues have snapped up Wayne Rooney as their new manager after the sacking of Eustace and the opportunity to play under the Manchester United legend on a more permanent basis could prove a really tempting one for the Elland Road academy graduate.
Right now, the Whites are incredibly stocked at right-back with Ayling, Stuart Dallas set to return to full fitness very soon and Spence recovering from a recent injury which certainly points to Drameh having no immediate future in West Yorkshire.
And Leeds United’s decision to offer Ayling a new deal could well force the academy star to finally ditch his parent club and quit in January for the long-term benefit of his career.
In other Leeds United news, another Thorp Arch academy graduate may have to leave in January with his career now in serious jeopardy.
