Bielsa considering Jordan Stevens

Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Jack Clarke will get his chance in the first-team this season despite being dropped from the squad for the last two league games.

Clarke has been the victim of Leeds having six loan stars with EFL rules stating that only five can be in the squad.

Helder Costa, Jack Harrison, Eddie Nketiah, Illan Meslier and Ben White have all been preferred to Clarke for the last two Championship games.

However, Bielsa was quick to dispel any rumours about potential trouble behind the scenes.

“There are reasons enough to say nothing is special about why he is not in the 18 players in the last two games,” Bielsa said in the pre-match press conference. [Leeds Live]

“We have a lot of matches in the month of August. Very probably the next game on Tuesday a lot of players who didn’t play before will be in the squad.

“In this moment I am focusing three wingers. They are putting in good performances, but Clarke will be in or be a substitute of one of them.”

Clarke broke through into the Leeds first-team last season before sealing a permanent move to Tottenham over the summer. We aren’t aware of a recall option but if Clarke doesn’t get back into the matchday squads for Leeds, Tottenham might consider it better that he develops within the Tottenham set-up.

Bielsa also said that he was considering first-team time for young midfielder Jordan Stevens.

The 19-year-old made the bench five times last season and came on for a 14-minute cameo appearance in the Championship game against Stoke last January.

Stevens hasn’t made the bench yet this season, not even in the EFL Cup game against Salford.
