'Awesome', 'Superb' - Many Leeds fans left 'buzzing' by key behind-the-scenes appointment

Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at Mark Jackson being named head coach of the club’s U23s.

The Whites confirmed the news via their official website on Monday afternoon.

The former Elland Road player will take over the role from Carlos Corberan, who has gone on to become manager at Huddersfield Town.

And supporters are seemingly over the moon for the local coach.

Jackson has been working with the Whites’ youth setup for some time now.

His first coaching role with the club came in 2015, and since then he has worked with the U15s, U16s, and most recently, the U18s.

He has enjoyed a good amount of success in that role too, winning the Professional Development League title in 2018.

For most fans, however, the real bonus here is that Leeds have chosen to go with an internal appointment – and we think it’s a great idea.

Marcelo Bielsa’s methods and standards are notoriously exact, so who better to make the step up to such a pivotal role than somebody who already knows what is expected of him?

Not only does it show that the club is a true meritocracy with a clear route of progression that rewards good, hard work, but it would also suggest that Bielsa is as fixated as ever on bringing youth through to the first team.

Jackson will know the current crop of youngsters better than pretty much anyone, having worked with many of them at several age groups.

All in all, this looks to be a brilliant, logical appointment from Leeds.
