49ers takeover can help Leeds United seal deal for Brazil striker Pedro as £86.2m news emerges
Leeds United continue their search for a new striker, and the 49ers takeover could help fund a deal for Brazil striker Pedro.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Leeds United are interested in signing Flamengo striker Pedro as their new striker for 2023.
It’s no secret that Jesse Marsch is on the hunt for a new forward, with Patrick Bamford proving unreliable and Rodrigo unable to consistently lead the line with his injury issues.
A young and athletic striker is top of the shopping list for January, and the 25-year-old is ticking all the boxes after finishing the 2022 Libertadores as the top scorer with 12 goals.
Pedro was also named in Tite’s Brazil squad for the World Cup, where he’ll hope to help his nation to a record-breaking sixth trophy in Qatar.
But his signature won’t come cheap, with the report stating that Pedro’s buyout clause at Flamengo is £86.2million. That’d break Leeds’ transfer record and then some.

But Leeds don’t have to give up on the transfer just yet, as the imminent takeover from the 49ers Enterprises will inject the club with a healthy pot of cash.
As exclusively revealed by MOT Leeds News, the takeover could be completed within weeks, meaning Marsch may have an inflated budget to improve his squad with.
If the club truly see Pedro as a future star at Elland Road, then the Brazilian could well be the first statement signing of the 49ers era at Leeds.
Plus, while his buyout clause sits at £86.2million, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Flamengo wouldn’t accept a lower offer that still meets their asking price.
Pedro’s current contract at the club runs until 2025, but internal pressure to leave from the player could help Leeds secure a cut-price deal either in January or next summer.
